A good article over at DailyBlogTips discussed a topic that I have often had conversations around: “How Frequently Should I Change My WordPress Theme?” and even though that particular conversation is surrounding one’s personal blog theme it made me wonder about how often ministries and non-profit organizations update their look and feel?
My gut feeling is that it’s not a lot and probably not enough.
Daniel says that one should do it as “Seldom as possible!” and I’d probably agree but I know so many ministries and church websties that look about a decade old.
Many of these sites need to be updated. You can only throw that “old” shirt in the laundry so many times before you simply realize it’s just “old.”
When was the last time you updated your ministry or organizational website with an updated look? Is it about time?

The reason Daniel tells us not to change themes very often is the weakening of our 'brand'. Most of the sites you are referring to have nothing resembling a 'brand' at all. They just have a website that they thought looked good at the time. So…before simply changing the look of their site, they might want to think about how they want to be seen first.

Good point, and I agree. Don't want to weaken the brand, but it'll have to change eventually…! The “brand” might be weak from a web perspective already… who knows!

the site should be updated regularly. some churches build a site, but never update it.

Yes, they do <a href=”http://easternhillsbaptistchurch.com” target=”_blank”>http://easternhillsbaptistchurch.com [they have a url redirect that I didn't know existed] but I have no control over it. Wished I could help make some changes there.

Wow… looks about time for an upgrade…

You are right. My brother has designed a few proposals (http://brentalexander.net/_site/wp-content/upload… but idk if they will ever change…southern baptists haha. How should I go about talking to them about the change?

Our website will be updated for the first time before the the year is out (when we relaunch the church under a different name and branding). Well we never had a site until a year or so ago.

Love the Inside North Point approach.
Thinking of using a blog approach to the official site – just need one of those Just Add Water products for Volunteers – ha ha ha

last time we updated http://oursaviours.com was probably over 5 years ago. I think it's looked this way as long as I've been on staff (5+yrs). We're due for an upgrade for sure… I'm toying with the idea of the blogs for ministries thing that North Point started! That looks cool! Re-Vamping our website early 2010… planning process for that to start soon… can't wait!
