Link Authority is the concept that came about with the construction of Google. If you have 100 good links from websites to your site, you will be ranked higher (or have to pay more with advertisements) on Google than someone that has 10 links. Here is how this infographic defines how links pass authority in a good to bad ratio, starting with good, moving to bad:
- Valuable link
- No Follow
- 301 Redirect
- To A Broken Page
- Paid Link
- Too Much Exact Match Anchor Text
What the infographic does not do is share how to obtain good links to your website. This can be due to a variety of things, including:
- Having great content
- Getting a post to go viral
- Being part of a network of bloggers that share links to others (i.e. ChurchMag’s Church Tech Snack Packs)
- Getting people to do social sharing for you from their own accounts.
- Being the lead authority on a topic.
- Offering a superior service or product that may include great customer service.
Notice that what you do not see on this list and would be defined in the infographic below as harmful are gimmicks and paid links. For those looking for the quick out, sorry. You are going to have to do the work.
