Apparently I got it wrong and someone corrected me publicly.
Doh!
It’s not pronounced “Oh S Ex” but rather “Oh S Ten”! From Apple directly (http://support.apple.com/kb/TA22541):
The current version of Mac OS is Mac OS X (pronounced “Mac O-S ten”). Earlier versions of Mac OS included Mac OS 9, Mac OS 8, System 7.5, and System 6. Major releases of Mac OS X include versions 10.0, 10.3, and 10.4.
Whoops. My bad.
Eric Dye says
O-S-X (Not O-S Ten) sounds way cooler.
Chris Ames says
Anyone else feel like we are but mere faceless zombies in the Apple Armada drooling over sweet, nectarous meconium from the collective teets of our Cupertino Overlords?
Kevin says
Eh. “Oh S X” and “Oh S Ten” are synonyms. I use them both depending on who I’m talking to and how fast I’m trying to talk!
Ben Miller says
The “X” might mean ten, but it also stands for “Unix.” So I’ll continue to pronounce it “Oh Es Ex.”
That’s right. I’m a rebel.
