How do you feel when someone is taking time out of their day for you, maybe sitting and eating lunch or enjoying a fresh cup of coffee, only to be interrupted by a text message or phone call?
Collectively, many people are taking an interesting and fun approach to this phenomenon of instant messages, instant replies and instant answers.
It’s called, a phone stack and this is how it works:
A Phone Stack
When each person arrives, they place their phone facedown in the middle of the table. As each of you arrive, you stack one phone on top of the other. This is optional, but it does add a little dramatic flare to the game.
As you hang-out one-on-one or with a group of friends, phones may ring and texts may be received, but no one is allowed to answer or look at their phone.
Yes. That’s right. Calls are missed and text messages wait! Can you imagine!?!
If the entire meal or coffee session goes without anyone giving in to the temptation of using their phone, everyone pays for their own. However, if anyone picks up their phone, they foot the entire bill.
Have you ever played Phone Stack?
Are you going to give it a try?

Many bible study groups in my Christian student organisation used a similar rule to deal with the problem of ringing phones. For us it was the Tim-tam rule. Tim-tams are a type of chocolate cookie that’s super popular in Australia. How the rule worked was if your phone went off during a meeting, you were responsible for bringing Tim-tam cookies for everyone the next week. Some groups had the extra clause that if you answered or checked your ringing phone you had to bring two packets.

This is AWESOME! Thanks for sharing!

Lame. Let the people use their phones.
Play credit card roulette. -> Everyone takes their CC out. One person shuffles, another one blindly picks the winner.
This is far more exciting.

THAT would be an awesome game 😀

Too funny however I spend half my life on call for my work so I could only play every other time.
Eric Dye says
Or you could try @AgileScout’s credit card game.

In my middle school bible study we used to stack them in the middle of the table because otherwise they would get too distracted and want to txt.

That’s a good idea, eh!
