Have fun.
I firmly believe Christians could use some help in this area of their lives. In fact, in our recent reader survey, a few submissions specifically noted that ChurchMag would be better if there was less fun. I have not figured out exactly why fun can be such an aversion for some, but when I see stuff like this (pictured below), it reinforces to me the importance of bringing fun and joy alongside whatever you do.
Take a look at this live chat screenshot that was taken between a customer (who shared the screenshot) and an Amazon customer support representative who clearly knew how to have fun without jeopardizing quality. In fact, I believe it increased the quality of his interaction with the customer!
This reminded me of this customer experience with Netflix. It is the kind of stuff that church volunteers of all types should adopt (not to mention church members!).
A good sense of humor, loving others, being patient, and being willing to not take yourself so seriously that you have a hard time having fun, that’s a good thing. That’s what happens when people have fun.
Everybody wins.

Gosh, I don’t know if I should address you as Lieutenant Dye or Odin! Truly appreciated your blog today since my life motto is : “If it is fun, or beautiful, I’m there.”
Wonder if you have seen the book “The Well Played Life” by Leonard Sweet? http://www.tyndale.com/The-Well-Played-Life/9781414373621#.VA2wJvldVAE
Might be worth your time. Thanks for a deliciously fun start to the week.
Great times ahead!

Reading this in my office, I caught myself holding in my laughter. I had to stop reading and evaluate my reaction in light of the topic. I can take my job and church seriously without losing my sense of humor. Fun is contagious. and attractive. Fear or whatever misplaced joy-killing emotion makes ya clamp down on fun… You know the rest.

Indeed I do! Keep being awesome—and keep laughing. 😀

This was a great read. It made my day. I have had quite a few chat’s with different support departments that were similar and it never gets old. I once had a conversation with my iso for 20 minutes about robot overlords and if I had the ability I would have hired that guy on the spot.

LOL! That’s awesome. 😀
