Habitica is a task manager app that was recently featured in the iOS app store. It is also available on Android.
What caught my attention about it was that it used gamification as a motivator to help you accomplish your task. Gamification is the act of adding game-like elements to make something that may be mundane to make it interesting. It is usually used for education.
This 8bit RPG style game/task manager allows you to first create a character for yourself with sever customizing options. A Zelda style guide walks you through each step as you set up your account.
“Habitica is a video game to help you improve real-life habits. It “gamifies” your life by turning all your tasks (habits, dailies, and to-dos) into little monsters you have to conquer. The better you are at this, the more you progress in the game. If you slip up in life, your character starts backsliding in the game.”
In Habitica your character can be leveled up by completing a task. You can lose health points for not getting it done. You can add habits you want to keep or break, daily projects, a task on a to-do list, and rewards. You can set up rewards for your self like playing a game or watching TV. Rewards are point based so you have to earn points to redeem for awards.
Habitica includes social features to get friends to help keep you accountable for your task. There are public guilds you can join. A Built-in game with quests that have to be earned with work keeps it all very interesting. And there are boss battles!
Habitica presents a very interesting approach to helping someone manage their task and be accountable. If you like games and you struggle with productivity than Habitica just might be the productivity app for you.

I’ve been using Habitica for several years and love how I can redesign it to fit my current needs. I only wish there was a Guild for Church Tech types. Any that you would recommend?
