Ah, Google. You take me on this irrational like/dislike rollercoaster.
Today, I’m in love.
One Today by Google
Google just launched a fairly ambitious program for non-profit causes named One Today. Kind of the like a Woot-Off of giving, One Today serves to highlight a specific non-profit each day, and allows users of the companion app make $1 donation to the organization of choice. Of course, crowd-sourcing efforts via social networking is an option, as is the ability to match donations.
For donors, the program app is currently available via invitation only, and as it is restricted to Android devices (for now) and requires the use of Google Wallet for donations, it does require a bit of immersion in the Google ecosystem. For nonprofits wanting to be listed, leaders will have to review the eligibility requirements to see if they qualify; added features of being a member of the Google for Nonprofits program are free Google Apps and Google Grants Adwords .
Now, I am one of those still unreasonably weepy about the loss of Reader (even though Eric did suggest Feedly to me, which is my new mobile RSS love). Still, I really, really like this initiative from the corporation that promised to do no evil. If it allows us to engage and spread God’s love, even cooler.
Will you use One Today?
