The Next Web has posted a report that Google Drive will be coming out this month. If you are not new to everything Google, you might be a bit speculative of the news because this is not a new rumor. In fact, for the past five years, we have been hoping for something like this.
If you go to the link provided in the article, http://drive.google.com/, you get a 404 Page, different from “Page Not Found” for incorrect subdomains on Google, so may be this rumor is something new!?
It is a bit surprising that Google has not jumped onto the cloud platform yet as they have so much space with GMail. It certainly would benefit them, with wanting to compete against iTunes, having Google+, and any other number of projects they come up with everyday.
Google Drive would be a direct competitor for Dropbox, Sugarsync, and other cloud storage web apps and so quality is key for Google from the beginning. Any syncing issues with their other web apps or desktop and mobile devices could be a huge problem.
The obvious benefits that could come with Google Drive on mobile and desktop syncing is the amount of space they can afford to offer, the speed and breadth of the applications, as well as the reliability of Google servers.
If the rumors are true, are you up for dropping your currently cloud storage for Google?

im thinking it would take a lot to drag me away from dropbox… but i guess we have to wait and see, right?
Jeremy Smith says
Agreed. I think my only loyalty is to efficiency and the amount of space I would get. Google Drive has a lot to live up to.
Brian Wahl says
I’m a long-time (and very happy) SugarSync user. Having said that, I’d definitely give Google Drive a shot.
I’ll believe it when I see it, though. Like you said in the post – the rumor for this product has been around for years.
Jeremy Smith says
We shall see. As with you, my hopes are not up until something official is stated.
