One of my best friends loves gift cards.
For him, there is no greater gift.
Upon receipt, you can go to the specific merchant and get anything you want.
On the flip side, giving a gift card is really easy!
You don’t have to worry about getting someone something they already have, the recipient won’t have to return it, and grabbing a gift card is as difficult as waiting in the checkout lane.
But, are gift cards selfish?
Sure, everyone wins, but is this a further cheapening of Christmas?
Jesus came to earth as a specific gift. Jesus’ gift also covers any sin, so I guess the analogy goes both ways.
I digress.
Gift card gifts are on the rise:

Are gift cards self centered?

I don’t mind RECEIVING gift cards, because I am admittedly hard to buy for. I don’t like GIVING gift cards, because I think it screams: “I didn’t really want to take the time to think about you. You think about you…”

I get the apeal of gift cards but I have given this a fair amount of thought and have come up with this: If you need to get someone a gift card are they really someone you need go get a gift for? Conversely if someone insists on a gift card (or even a specific gift for that matter) are they really interested in a gift?

Yes? 😀
