Last week Facebook announced their release of the Android SDK which included a number of pieces of noteworthiness:
- Strong authentication using OAuth 2.0
- Making requests to the new Graph API
- Publishing stories back to Facebook via Feed forms
And more. In fact, much more – the SDK is more robust than the iPhone version which leads me to believe that we’ve only begun to see what’s possible with Android as a platform playground.
Sure, the current app still is a bit inferior but I’m guessing not for long.
I’m sure that as it matures we’ll see much more of our time spent with Android handsets than iPhone. I’m no prognosticator but Open Source calls to me!
I think we’re going to need to pay attention to how organizations begin to channel their innovation, time, and resources into Android, and I can’t wait to catch wind of organizations that are taking advantage of all spotlight that’s shining so brightly on the iPhone (and iPad) as they create something spectacular underground.
Underdogs are awesome.
Have any hopes for the Android beyond just Facebook? What are you waiting to see?

I’ve been noticing the shift for a while now. I’m a big iPhone fan, and I’ve had one for about a year now, but everyone I know has an andoid phone since ATT is not in South Dakota. A part of me is tempted to get an android but I just like the integration with my mac and the complete package of the iPhone. Plus, with the next iPhone just about here with the 4.0 update and possible Verizon coverage coming late this year, it will be interesting to see if iPhone can regain what it has lost. The underdog in me though also wants to cheer android on…but we’ll just see how it pans out in a year or so!

Just having a decent Facebook app is something I’m desiring. Most of the time it just sends you to their mobile site. There’s a lot of momentum building up behind Android. Exciting times! 🙂
