I know that the weapon of choice for most Mac-based developers is TextMate of Coda (and with good reason), but it’s always cool to checkout what new tools are available.
Fraise recently graced my inbox and it looks like a worthy contender…
Straight from the developers themselves, Fraise seeks to be a solid editor for newbies and seasoned developers.
It definitely follows popular Mac UI design principles and will feel familiar for those of us that prefer text editors to huge IDE’s.
Worth a look, huh?

Free is good and it handles an impressive number of syntax(s?). Although i’d rather shoot myself in the foot than work on Objective C in a text editor. Personal preference I’m sure.
I’ll be interested to see if I run into a situation where I’d use it over Coda.
Tom says
What’s your preferred IDE for Objective-C based projects? Xcode?
Brian N. says
You know, I haven’t actually tried any other IDEs for Objective-C projects other than Xcode.
Is there something better out there?
Tom says
Honestly, I’m not sure. I’m not really a Mac-based developer but Xcode seems to be the environment of choice for that particular crowd.

Is this the spiritual successor to smultron?
http://smultron.sourceforge.net/
The ui is almost exactly the same. Maybe fraise got a hold of the source and updated it for snow leopard?
Tom says
Ha! That’s interesting. I’m honestly not sure..
Jake says
Is this just smultron renamed?
Tom says
That’s what Jonathan was suggesting. Could be..
