Donald A. Norman wrote a book in 1988 titled, The Psychology of Everyday Things.
It had and still has an impact on my design paradigm. Chapter 4, shows an 1980’s technology concept of the light switch above. I scanned the page here:

Most of Donald Norman’s books are great. I studied Industrial Design for 5 years and his books hit a nerve in me. Another idea from that book, is the visual language of door handles. A well designed door handle will tell you (without words), if it wants to be pushed or pulled. I think about that every time I enter our local pizza place…
