In early February, Mozilla gave a sneak peek at their new Firefox launcher for Android which is soon to be released, although a date has not been given.
Back in November 2012, Mozilla teamed up with EverythingMe in order to develop open web apps. EverythinMe’s flagship is their “adaptive search” which learns a user’s behaviour and is an eerily accurate fashion anticipates the right results. This video from the EverythingMe team explains the concept better than I ever could:

Common Issues
One of the issues with Android is that there are lots of lousy launchers out there. Most manufacturers tend to create their own launchers for their devices in order to show off that particular devices features. Sadly this usually also comes with lots of bloatware that slows the device down and results in a a poor user experience. I’m left wondering whether, with their extensive web and app development experience, Mozilla will be able to deliver a flawless product or whether this will be just another irritating launcher.
Isn’t it all subjective?
Surely it should be — with the hundreds of available launchers and phones out there it all comes down to taste. Facebook’s phone flopped massively despite it promising a great array of features. On paper it was offering exactly what so many wanted and yet it failed to sell. I put this down to the hardware specs & the idea of Mark Zuckerberg knowing my exact location 24-7. But there have been other launchers which have failed before they even began. Having such a wide choice is great, but one of the costs is the inevitable array of cheap and low quality junk that just doesn’t work.
So I call out to other Android users – What’s been your favorite (‘favourite’ for those in the UK) launcher and why?
If you can’t wait to see the launcher, then try out the EverythingMe launcher here.
