Jon Acuff is a Christian satire legend with amazing achievements to include the Stuff Christians Like blog and going on a speaking tour with Dave Ramsey to encourage people to follow their dreams. He’s recently released his latest book, Finish: Give Yourself The Gift Of Done. How does this one stack up to the rest of Jon’s books and is it worth getting?
Jon takes off in his original over-the-top satire as he does in all work he has written. If you are a fan of his humor, you won’t be disappointed. I understood I don’t connect with it, so this review will be a little more objective-based and very little fanboying.
More so than any other book Jon has written, this book comes off as a self-help book that encourages people to finish what they were working on. Was it motivating in the moment? Yes. But it was definitely a temporary feeling. Further, many of the insights Jon shares are from other books that do feel as if they are given the Acuff charming venire.
I realize this sounds critical, but for some people, this will be exactly what they need. For others who would rather read ground-breaking material instead of self-help content, you may want to look other places for something to read.
The book is a quick and easy read with lots of puns and if you get an audiobook (we are giving them away in the comments), the Jon Acuff swagger can be infectious.
Overall, I’d give this book a 3 out of 5. Don’t expect to have your entire life changed, but for a morning read to start your day, it is definitely a great coffee table book.
