Facebook vs Snapchat [Infographic]

Facebook has had several big tech purchases, most notably Instagram and WhatsApp.

One mobile app, however, has resisted their billion dollar attempts of acquisition.

Snapchat.

And like Facebook, it’s had its share of privacy concerns and failures.

So how exactly do these two social networks stack-up next to each other?

Let’s take a looksy:

I’ve seen and heard around the web that Snapchat is more popular than Facebook for nextgen users, however, some of these stats tend to differ. Perhaps Snapchat isn’t as much of a replacement to Facebook, as much as it is an augmentation to teens social media lives?

What do you think about this Facebook / Snapchat comparison?

I think this infographic is hugely misleading when it comes to Snapchat. As if the only controversy they had was turning down Facebook’s offer. They’ve had security issues, leaks, and of course it turns out your pictures aren’t deleted at all. It’s a highly controversial app that has caused big problems for many teens. I recommend Adam McLane’s brilliant post about SnapChat to set the record straight: http://adammclane.com/2013/08/22/why-you-should-delete-snapchat/

I lead a small group of 12-15, 14 year olds, none of them use facebook, but they all use snapchat or facetime to communicate.

      Yup, not surprised.

And while some use Snapchat in a bad way, there are plenty of teens who use it to be awesome — imho.

What has your experience been like?

For the most part the guys are all very good about what they SnapChat. Every once in awhile I get a random snapchat of what they are eating, where they are at (if they are away on a Wednesday night) or random things they are doing. It’s great. Whenever I have been sick on a Wednesday they will facetime me to video conference me in to the evening. I have also been facetimed randomly from a sporting event and concert so that I could ‘join in’. It’s fun. I haven’t heard of or seen anything bad as far as my guys, here’s to hoping they are honorable and flee from those things.
