For those of you who run a Facebook group, whether for your church or organization, you know that getting the right people in the group is important. Just because you have a thousand people in your group does not guarantee anyone will be engaged. This new tool introduced late last year helps you to screen out people that you may not want to join or to ensure they understand what they are agreeing to.
Definitely a tool you need to consider and one we are using for our Facebook group.
“Screening new membership requests requires time and legwork for admins – particularly for groups built around focused passions or purpose. For these groups, admins typically have specific criteria they require before admitting new members. Establishing these open-ended questions enables them to more quickly review and approve member requests; in turn, people seeking communities of support or shared interest can more quickly connect with others.”
Our Questions
So over in our closed Facebook group, we are using this questions option. In fact, to make sure it’s not someone spamming a hundred places to join and spam their message, we are requiring you to answer them before we just add you. It also adds a bit of community when you join because we get to know you.
So what questions are we asking? Here they are:
The questions are mostly for understanding you as you join. It makes sense to see if you want to write because this is an untapped group. Understanding how you found the group helps us understand how we are getting discovered. And the nerdiness helps us better understand our audience.
Other Questions
There are certainly a variety of questions you could ask here. For some, this is the perfect way to improve your marketing. Others want to build relationships. Still, others may want to make this group as safe as it can be. Here are some questions you may want to consider asking:
- Have you read the rules of the group and do you agree with them?
- If you would like to sign up for our newsletter, share your email with us here.
- Are you interested in serving as a volunteer at our church?
- If you are new to our church, would you like to know more about our services and programs?
- How can we pray for you?
- Why did you join this group?
- Do you have any questions or concerns we can answer for you before you join the group?
- What other social media are you on and can you provide a link so we can follow you?
If you are in charge of your church or organization’s Facebook groups, what questions are you asking them before you approve them?
