What if a girl in the Holocaust had Instagram?
The Eva Stories project is exactly that and it is the most meaningful and purposeful use of Instagram Stories that I have ever seen and probably will ever see in my life.
This story is based on one of a real girl named Eva. It’s a never-heard-before story, and through Instagram Stories the viewers are not only able to hear it, but they’re also able to experience it with her. It brings to life not only Eva’s story but the stories of all of the 6 million Jews murdered at the Holocaust.
The story of the Holocaust is one that needs to be repeated, over and over and over again. I saw a lot of controversy and criticism of this telling of this story because they felt that using Instagram Stories cheapens it somehow. But I disagree, not only because I could feel the heart and soul that went into this project, but because they are reaching generations of young people who may not ever sit down to watch Schindler’s List or read The Hiding Place, but who will sit and watch Instagram Stories. When I sat down and watched every single story, I was in tears because even though I have read The Hiding Place, and watched the movies, this story breaks my heart every time– just like it should.
It’s important that we don’t stop telling these stories, because we don’t want them to happen ever again and how are we going to do that if we forget about them?
