Quick on the heals of the recently launched Google Drive, Dropbox have announced another new great feature – desktop Camera Uploads.
With the latest version of Dropbox for the desktop (PC & MAC), when you plugin a camera, photo card (SD and all that) or tablet/smartphone, Dropbox can, if you wish, auto upload any new photos (and videos) into a new ‘Camera Uploads’ folder (this has been in the beta and on Android devices for a while, but this is the first ‘proper’ version for desktops).
And even better, the first time you use the Camera Upload feature you get an extra 500MB free – and by uploading more photos you can earn up to an extra 3GB of space! (If you were a beta user, you will already have had you space you don’t get extra space again!)
And on the web side of Dropbox, there’s a new ‘Photos’ section where your Camera Uploads are displayed by date in a Picasa/iPhoto styley.
This is certainly an interesting development of getting your stuff in the cloud.

I got this feature a while back on my Droid, and I have to admit to having mixed feelings about it. I would much prefer a scheduled upload, rather than an auto upload. That way I can edit pictures (out of focus, just plain bad), instead of now having a second place to delete them. Other than that, I’m really liking this feature so far (and the extra space isn’t bad, either)…
