It’s the cool thing to do, now.
I guess they got all bent-out-of-shape when Amazon launched the Amazon Appstore.
The story didn’t start there. The suing habit started with Microsoft.
To be a really good tech company, you have to have really good lawyers.
You see, Microsoft has already begun to push Apple’s claim on “App Store” already.
Apple brought in a linguistics expert, Dr Robert Leonard, who stated:
The term “App Store” is a proper noun to refer to Apple’s online marketplace.
Apple’s expert.
I’m curious to know:
Why didn’t they go with iApp Store?
Everything else in the Apple universe starts with an “i”, why not this?
If App refers to an application for an iPhone, iTouch and iPad, what might an app … excuse me … application be called for anything else?
When I open up a new tab in Google Chrome, it says, “Apps.” None of which are made by Apple.
We’ll have to wait on the United States Patent and Trademark Office for the answer, since Apple has stuck their flag on the moon called “Apps”, and now they think it belongs to them.
Meanwhile, Amazon, Google, Microsoft, and probably others, may have to undergo some serious branding changes.
