Got any web-based/digital superstitions? I got this idea from SoulPancake’s blog today and thought it was an interesting topic to bring to the web-space.
I know I have a number of fears, some more rational than others (actually, a lot of them are just plain dumb), but superstitions…?
Got any? Share them.

Never say "I should save this before it crashes".

never use Internet Explorer. It does nasty stuff

That's not superstitious, simply common-sense!

Perhaps more "common" knowledge than superstitions?
1.) Reboot every 24hrs (if you leave your computer on overnight).
2.) Always eject media (USB jump drives) before removing, shutting down, etc.
3.) Always keep more than one backup.
4.) NEVER open email from people you don't know.
5.) NEVER use the same password for important services (banking) as you do with other stuff (Twitter).
So on and so forth..

Yeah…I still avoid "cracks" in the sidewalk. Not that I think Mom's back is actually at risk; it just seems somehow disrespectful.

Not really a superstition, but funny:
I go on vacation and my co-workers computer power supply dies. He steals mine form my computer.
I come back, find out the story. Ask him to order me a replacement. Two weeks go by (and I work off a laptop). Still has not ordered replacement supply.
I tell him "order my power supply by today, or I will be taking mine back from your computer"
He get snotty and says "yea, like you do more important things with your computer…"
I inform my boss of what I have told co-worker.
Boss tells co-worker "order now, or Don gets his back."
He orders new, better, and more powerful supply.
I install 24 hours later and lock my case to keep grubby paws away from my internals.
less than 24 hours later, my old, stolen power supply dies.
co-worker has to wait 72 hours for RMA replacement.
Do not steal components from co-workers. God is sovereign over IT.

I hate doing anything important (i.e. banking) over a wireless network. It's all in the air, man! But, alas, wires are going the way of the dodo, so I must relent. I just lock down my networks.

superstitions is the chance of something good or bad may happen again under the same exact circumstances.
If you follow the exact action prior certain result …. chances are it will happen again.
Like a manufactured serendipity….
