We left off with our custom PC build last at a total of $868.28 of our $1,200 budget with the expectation of spending another $300 in a few months. We need to factor in shipping, a SATA cable that was missing from my hard drive, and our operating system (Windows 10 via USB stick). Which means our total for the whole project comes out at $1154.20, the perfect amount.
In case you wanted to see it, here is the full specs of the PC (click the links for further details).
- CPU – Intel Core i5-4690K 3.5GHz Quad-Core Processor
- Motherboard – MSI Z97-GAMING 5 ATX LGA1150 Motherboard
- RAM – Crucial Ballistix Sport 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR3-1600 Memory
- Storage – Seagate Barracuda 2TB 3.5″ 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive
- Video Card – EVGA GeForce GTX 960 4GB SuperSC ACX 2.0+ Video Card
- Case – Fractal Design Define R4 w/Window (Black Pearl) ATX Mid Tower Case
- Power Supply – Corsair CX 430W 80+ Bronze Certified Semi-Modular ATX Power Supply

- Monitor – BenQ GL2460HM 60Hz 24.0″ Monitor

I did have an unboxing of the PC as well as me constructing it. Unfortunately due to poor lighting and autofocus, the entire footage was terribly blurry and so I had to scrap it.
Future Upgrades
I do plan to upgrade in the future. Some of my specs that I would like to consider upgrading include in priority order:
- Second Monitor
- Additional Hard Drive Space (Maybe up to 10TB?)
- Additional RAM
This was a very fun endeavor and I would love to see what you would do if you had $1,200 to purchase your own PC with the understanding you may upgrade it in the future.

Good job. With those components, you could pretty easily get an SSD or a 1 TB HDD and throw OSX on it.

Agreed. That is my first upgrade unless a second monitor comes up crazy cheap in the next couple of weeks.
