I love seeing how other photographers see the world, especially when they highlight or draw attention to something that I haven’t seen before. Sometimes they come up with clever ideas and effects that can turn something ordinary, extraordinary. This video from Cooph has 9 tricks (and a common sense piece of advice) that you can try at church (or home) and could help your next event photos or sermon art really stand out.

The 9 Creative Photography Tricks To Do at Home or Church
They include:
- fake gilter for snow effects
- using a magnifying glass for macro effects
- modifying your flash for more directed light
- creating a water framed selfie
- creating a splash fruit photo
- creating your own lens flare
- using a glass of water to create a warped effect
- creating a fake background and using forced perspectives
- shooting through water droplets
I can see how the glitter effect could be great in winter, and the magnifying glass could be really handy to draw attention to certain verses in or details that are in a large group of information. The splashing effect could be handing for sermon series based around water and the water droplets could also offer a very different perspective on something familiar.
More Creative Flash tricks
I’ve seen a few other creative flash tricks that can lead to very different effects, one that I’ve particularly found useful at church is the polystyrene dome for a cheap spherical diffuser for event photography flash. This helps to give more even and less harsh light from your small flash, great in darks rooms or halls.
I’m certainly going to try some of these out and see what effects I can get that make our graphics stand out just a bit more and look extra special.
