Online marketing is just boring nowadays. What isn’t boring is honestly obscene or stupid. Why is it we cannot get online marketing content that wows people? Why do we have to either be boring, a copycat of someone else, or outlandish in what we do? I have some thoughts on how you can figure it out, but realize that me giving you cookie cutter details will only perpetuate the issue. You need to do the work, I just want to point a way.
The fact is that online marketing is stagnant. We need to break the mold and step up our game. Here are three ideas:
- Don’t regurgitate what everyone else is doing online.
You are not the social media and online marketing manager that another person is at another company. You do not have the same resources or audience. Copying them will only give you minimal results and probably hurt your brand.
- Don’t tread slowly.
If you have something to say, go all in. Put the time, resources, and effort into what you are doing. Make it amazing, instead of just something else being said online.
- Do something to completion.
I say this because too many times social media campaigns get started but then never go anywhere. It amazes me how many times someone does a giveaway but then never announces the winner, pushes a hashtag campaign but never fully utilizes it, or want to have them integrated advertisement with their new project, but forget to actually follow through. If you do something, do it well.
