By now, I’m sure you heard about Kanye West’s prolific tweet-spree that occurred early last week. If not, check it out. It was a humorous hundred-tweet run.
And yet, at the same time, it was epic.
In short, Kanye announced that he wants to change the world by creating a company—DONDA, named after his late mother—comprised of every sort of professional, innovator, and dream you could list. I’ll let Kanye tell you a bit about it. (Each new line is a new Tweet. There are about a hundred, so this is not a tweet-by-tweet replay.)
I am assembling a team of architects, graphic designers, directors musicians, producers, AnRs, writers, publicist, social media experts…
app guys, managers, car designers, clothing designers, DJs, video game designers, publishers, tech guys, lawyers, bankers, nutritionist …
doctors, scientist,teachers…
DONDA will be comprised of over 22 divisions with a goal to make products and experiences that people want and can afford…
…To dream of, create, advertise and produce products driven equally by emotional want and utilitarian need.. To marry our wants and needs.
That’s a massive undertaking for one guy to embark on, and I have no idea how committed Kanye is to this plan. Yet, as I was thinking about these tweets, I kept feeling that this is what the Church should be doing:
Embarking on an epic, all-or-nothing attempt to save the world.
Granted, true Salvation has already been abundantly supplied, but since we’ve “tasted and seen,” isn’t it now our mission to to bring God’s message of restoration to the world through evangelism and good works?
Looking through Kanye’s list, I have to believe that every single one of those positions could be filled by someone sitting in a pew in one of our churches.
Obviously, different websites (i.e. ChurchMag) and ministries already do this on a macro-scale, but what if the churches in our local communities joined together, crossing denominational lines, and began to lead people toward reconciliation with God all the while working to restore and reclaim our cities?
What if all of our micro-efforts produced some macro-results? How awesome would that be?
Should the Church be the epic creative juggernaut that Kanye wants to create?
How can we put our heads together on both the “macro” and “micro” and bring some restoration to our world?
Speak your mind...
