Wow, its been a crazy last 8 weeks. New town. New job. New church. Definitely a thrill ride for me and my family. Oh yeah, and a new website for Gateway Church.
Review and Do
The last two phases are more or less being blended together since we are basically cloning the content on the current site over to a new platform, so we are reviewing the content as we move it over to the new site. So its not what I would call a ‘ground up’ build.
But the rubber has been meeting the road this week as we are building the the site.
I have been structuring the actual WordPress installations while the template is being designed and coded by a firm in Oklahoma, which makes things a bit tricky. I have had to do a lot ‘imagining’ how a page layout might look when the final template is installed. It may not be the best way to develop a site but it is fast, and that’s important this time around for a couple reasons:
- Mid-July through Mid-August is a good time to ‘soft launch’ a church website. This time of year generally doesn’t have a lot going on for most churches and web traffic is down a bit. It gives us a chance to roll out the site and see how it works in the wild for a few weeks before we do a full scale announcing of it.
- There are a lot of projects that are on hold until the new site is live. My main goal is to launch an internet campus, but I can’t put a whole lot into that until the main Gateway Church website is up and running, as well as a lot of initiatives from other departments.
So here’s the take away for today; unless your site is going to be a static online brochure type of site, it will never be ‘finished’. That’s what I love about the web, nothing is carved in stone, I wish more stuff in life was like that.
I can’t wait to show you the site in my next post!
