I know this isn’t an amazing pro tip or anything, but it’s certainly a fun thing to do.

I wanted to title this post, “Church Website Maintenance Made Easy: Embed WordPress Page Data with page_id,” but that was too long.
Way, too long.
I came across this solution while working on a current WordPress project and thought I would pass it along. I wanted three columns below a main header. Each column would contain a 250px or so image followed by some supporting text with a link. There are plenty of Church websites that have this similar layout on their front page. In the past, I’ve hard coded this text in. The only problem is that if you turn a WordPress site over to a Church for their own maintenance, they’re essentially locked-out from making the edit.

So, you’ve done the most you can with step one of your WordPress Diet.
Believe me, there are more sit-ups to come and more calories to burn.
Increasing your site speed isn’t about that guy in Montana who has dial-up (If you’re from Montana, please, accept my apology. Just pretend I said, “Wyoming.”)
It’s not even about providing a better experience for the user, although that is a worthwhile side-effect.
Speed is going to help with your Google ranking. Although it isn’t the only factor Google takes into consideration, it certainly carries enough weight to motivate you to put your WordPress on a diet. (Did you miss Step 1? Give it a read!)

I’ve recently launched some online journals for my two oldest daughters. Naturally, I set them up with a self-hosted private WordPress blog and built them each a quick customized theme (via Standard Theme).
Indoctrination?
No. I just want them to be using the best tools. 😉
These are simply for private use, so while I was monkeying around with privacy and login tweaks, I ran into a number of sweet login snippets I thought I’d share.

How would you like to create a static website written in PHP?
Talk about a solid business card site, right?
Use Phrozn, a static site generator written in PHP.
You write text files in your favorite format (Textile, Markdown, Twig, Haml etc), in your favorite environment (Vim, Vim, or Vim etc), spice them with styles (again, in format of your choice – CSS, LESS, or SASS), feed all this to Phrozn, and it will create static HTML site ready to be published.
Slick!

It’s time to put your WordPress site on a diet! It’s time to tighten the belt, slim down, increase its speed and ease its load.
