Dropbox has definitely created a niche for itself. In fact, I’d say that viable competitors are currently slim-to-none.
Don’t get me wrong, I like having a single, silver bullet solution as much as the next person but the truth of the matter is that competition fosters innovation. As such, it’s fair to say that I’d like to see a couple of new players in the personal computing cloud storage space.
You know – something like CloudApp…
CloudApp is a Mac-only, cloud-based storage application. The program seeks to make it easy to share your files, videos, music, images, and links.
All interaction with the application occurs in the menu bar: Simply drag a file up to it and it’s stored. CloudApp also returns a short URL that makes the file accessible via the web. There’s also a web-based interface for managing your files on-the-go.
From a technical standpoint, the application runs on Heroku and Amazon S3 both of which are incredible cloud-based solutions. I really dig seeing how people leverage these particular services within their own projects.
Gotta say, I think the execution is pretty slick on this.
Any takers?

I use this multiple times everyday, and have used it for the last few months and I LOVE IT. They are rolling out some new features too that are going to make it even more awesome.

I use this app all the time. Great for passing around screenshots, mock-ups of images, and demo songs. I highly recommend.

Our team uses Dropbox’s sharing feature for some of that. Not all of us on our Mac’s, though, so this isn’t much of an option ;).

I’ve been using this for a few months and I LOVE everything about it. Really short links, click tracking, etc. Its the best. Oh and its pretty well known to the graphic design world.

..that’d explain why I was late finding it 🙂
