Selfies. I don’t think there’s a word that symbolizes our culture more at the moment. And I’m not alone in my opinion: the word ‘selfie’ became the Oxford Dictionary Word of 2013.
We’ve all seen them in our Twitter feed, in our Facebook timeline and especially on Instagram. Taking of making a selfie is almost required now if you want to look cool and culturally relevant. And it’s exactly that, the cultural aspect that has been studied and analyzed, by analyzing selfies.
Analyzing Selfies
Flip through this fascinating Slideshare on analyzing selfies and learn about the cultural relevance of a phenomenon that is as much despised as it is accepted. Obviously, you get a limited picture though slides only, but I found the selfie facts very interesting. I found it fascinating for instance that the type of selfie varies per country and culture, as does the accompanying hashtag.

My take away? Selfies tell stories. Though sometimes a different story than the poster may have intended.
What struck you in the presentation about selfies?
Do you view them differently now?

That’s not good. Sorry!
Eric Dye says
Selfies are an interesting phenomenon, made possible by forward facing cameras.
