As Christians we represent Jesus to the world. We don’t always do a good job. Often we do a terrible job. That’s not to say we can’t do better. We can. Thankfully God’s grace is sufficient.
Those involved in church social media have a responsibility to represent Jesus, the Church, and their local church online. I’d like suggest a prayer as a reminder of who we are and the role we play for Kingdom purposes.
The Christian Social Media Manager Prayer
Dear Lord,
Your love is unfathomable to me. Thank you for your unending grace and mercy. For lavishing your love on me when I don’t deserve it. And withholding your wrath when I’ve earned it.
Thank you for the opportunity to serve the Church as the social media manager for [NAME] church. It is a blessing to spread the Gospel and encourage my brothers and sisters in Christ online.
Help me be humble. To appreciate the weight of responsibility I’ve been entrusted with. To remember this is not my platform, but Yours.
Please grant me the wisdom to use words with discernment. To write honorably and respond graciously. To pause whenever potential content seems questionable.
Give me your eyes so that I can see the hurt in people’s words. Keep my heart soft to react with compassion and kindness.
Show me that stats and metrics don’t matter compared to the people on the other side of the screen. Let us share our stories together.
Help me to unplug and engage in relationships offline. To remember social media is a supplement for tangible community, not a substitute.
Please use me. Draw me close to You. Keep me thirsty for your Word.
Amen.
