If you’ve never heard of Candy Crush Saga, please go read another post on ChurchMag right now and consider yourself blessed.
For the rest of you, here’s why I decided to delete Candy Crush from my iPad.
Why I Decided to Delete Candy Crush
I’m not a big gamer and that’s putting it mildly. But I do like to play the occasional game on my iPad. I play Wordfeud with my mother in law, I’ve been known to play Tetris for hours and I can enjoy a round of Fruit Ninja every now and then.
Then these Candy Crush Saga mentions started popping up on my Facebook timeline, very annoying. People were asking for lives, for help, it bugged me senseless. But it did make me wonder:
If so many people I knew played this game, it had to be fun, right?
So I downloaded it from the App Store. For the first few days, everything was fine. I was getting the hang of it and it was fun to try and get as high a score as possible or to simply ‘solve’ a level.
But then something happened. I started to get more or less obsessed with Candy Crush. I got irritated when I ran out of lives, frustrated when I couldn’t solve a level. I was counting the hours and minutes till I could play again.
At a certain point you hit a level where you either have to pay extra, or do ‘special assignments’ to go to the next level. But between these assignments, there’s a 12 or 24 hour waiting time. It drove me crazy, I was literally counting the hours till I could continue. Sometimes, I’d play until way past midnight instead of going to sleep.
This continued for about four weeks. Then suddenly I realized what was happening. I was starting to get addicted to this stupid game.
I deleted it at once and I never regretted it. The moment a game starts to rule your life, it’s time to let go. That’s why I deleted Candy Crush and you better believe, I’ll think twice before downloading another game everyone is talking or posting about! At least I’m not the only one who finds Candy Crush addictive…
Have you ever become obsessed or addicted to a game or app?

And THIS is why I categorically refuse to ever download Candy Crush. Wise man. Way to cut the cord.

Then you are smarter than me 🙂

There’s a reason it makes $750k/day. You get just mad/frustrated enough with it, the $0.99 bailout looks real appealing. I deleted it last week. Cold turkey.
