Technology is growing faster and faster.
Each piece of technology is placed over the previous layer, becoming bigger, faster and more forceful than the 10 years before … 5 years before … and 3 years before. I believe the technological developments have reached such a high velocity, that the marketplace has intentionally slowed down the release of some tech, so as to be sure to fully profit from each progressive step.
Towers of technology are being built.
Layer upon layer, higher and higher, the greater the height, the greater the reach, the more that can be seen.
Never, in the history of mankind, have we had this much information, in the reach of so many people. Never, in the history of mankind, have we had so many ways to be in direct contact with so many others.
The towers of technology reach higher with each passing day. It has become the focus of the world.
Technology realized – technology idolized.
Being in this world, we too, naturally are building with technology. 8BIT is building with technology.
The world is building grand towers that rise to the heavens, to create like a god and control from a command prompt. Technology, itself, is the goal. The goal is to build towers to stand on, towers to dominate, and towers to reach.
As Christians, we must have a different goal. We have a different purpose.
We must place the Light of the World at the top of our towers.
The question isn’t:
Is technology good or bad?
The question isn’t:
Can we build our towers as high as everyone else?
The question we must ask ourselves as we build our technological towers is this:
Are we building towers or lighthouses?

Love this post Eric! Seriously. I hope I’m building lighthouses.

Thank you! You’ve really encouraged me. I hope I am, too!

Really? Thanks man! You are encouraging me too. Loving your posts. Sharing this one with my worship team where I work. I think sometimes they get the wrong idea about the way I see technology. This post is really how I see it. Although my tendency to be an early adopter might tell them otherwise.

That’s awesome!
I have to check myself and make sure I keep my focus.
Keep building!
