Brains are terrible at grasping beauty.
Being an advertising creative, I’ve always wrestled with the idea of man-made perceptions of beauty. I remember the first time I saw a professional model on set for one of my ads. To the everyday person, she looked…well, everyday. There was nothing particularly spectacular about her appearance in person, other than being quite pretty.
And we all know a pretty person.
Yet once we had finished the process of ad polishing, there it was. A creature of beauty (the glamourous sort), the kind you’d expect to grace the cover of a fashion magazine.
So who was this person? It was the woman I met on set, and at the same time it wasn’t. I felt disenchantment set in, as the media-made construct of beauty began to unravel within my mind. I was tricked by my own craft. Silly little human.
The mind is easily fooled. Don’t believe me? Watch this video.

Beauty is seen through the eyes of the heart. Keep your eyes on the Cross.
