My New Favorite App: DGT GTD (Getting Things Done)

When it comes to to-do apps, I am EXTREMELY picky. I have to be, since my mind is a bit, well, flighty.

My preferred configuration has evolved over the years. My litmus test used to be the famed Datebk5 from Palm: desktop and handheld intertwining at its finest. Since then, I have gravitated to cloud functionality. I learned that it was best to get software that I have a reasonable chance of finding on other platforms, and also had a web component that allows me to access data from anywhere that has an internet connection.

We’ve all had some time to play with Google Currents, and if it does one thing well, it makes your favorite feeds look GOOD. Currents is a digital magazine that aggregates available feeds into one app with a tidy, effective UI.

What’s Does the Ideal Mobile Ministry Office Look Like?

I have been flirting with the concept of a mobile office for a while and creating a truly mobile ministry.

It’s a great concept, and one that I did not come up with myself. Being a ministry worker to a generation that is almost permanently mobile is almost a given at this point.

With our young adults (several of whom are my first graduates from my current youth ministry), there is a need. A few of them go to local colleges, and I figure a good laptop/smartphone, Starbucks wi-fi and a willingness to meet them could take us far. Plus, I figure I could add the uber-cool tag “Digital Gospel Nomad” to my profile.

The Carrier IQ Debacle (or How NOT to Deal with Bad Press)

Carrier IQ is killing the interwebs.

Just to be clear, it isn’t a measure of how intelligent our nation’s warships are. No, Carrier IQ has gone from being a fairly benign Android-specific nuisance to being  labeled as a  consumer privacy menace that has attracted the attention of Congress.  And it managed to do that in less than a fortnight.

In proving wrong the adage that “all news is good news,” CIQ has managed to also give  us a few lessons in how not to manage a media crisis.

Rooting My Barnes & Noble Nook Color

Ah…

Another opportunity to tinker and delve into the Android world of Administrative Privileges. I’m not the first here to write about this; we have the posts and pics to prove it.

I consider myself an experienced, uh, rooter.

HTC Hero and EVO have received Matrix-like awakenings at my hands.  Why? Well, there is an element of “just because I can” in my tech engraved heart. I like to customize, and I like to increase my options. Rooting is not just a hobby for me; it is something I need to do.
