Christmas is over! The gifts have been given, cookies have been eaten, and your extended family is back home (where they belong!). Now’s the time to really start playing with all the toys you’ve received! With Android putting a huge foot forward this year, I wouldn’t be surprised if you got at least one thing powered by Android. Maybe you got a brand new Moto X, Nexus 7, or Note Tab. In any case, you now need to know how to get started. Keep reading. I’m here to help. [Read more…] about Android 101-01: Baby Steps
What's in Your Status Bar?
Ah, the status bar. Yet another thing to love about Android. I find it amazing how such a small percentage of your screen can contain so much information! For those seasonal newcomers, your status bar is the black (usually) thin bar at the top of your screen. There are a few apps I use that have persistent notifications (those that stay in your tray even after clearing), and I think they might be helpful to you as you go about your ministry. Let’s take a look. [Read more…] about What's in Your Status Bar?
Proclaim Review and Giveaway
A year and a half ago, I was serving in a young adults ministry that didn’t use technology at all. The more I served, the more I realized that we were missing huge opportunities to reach others with our time, talents, and treasures by not getting plugged in. So I started to do all the design work, created and moderated social media pages, and learned the basics of the sound board. The only thing left was our presentation. The church used EasyWorship, so we did too. I wasn’t a huge fan (I was also no expert in that type of thing), but it worked for what we needed it to do.
Here is what our church decided it needed and why Proclaim fit perfectly! Note, at the end a great surprise for all churches to take advantage of!
Android Spotlight: Agent
I don’t know about you, but until a few weeks ago, I hated my cell phone ritual right before bed. I’d snuggle up next to my wife, only to be jolted by an unsilenced notification a moment later. I get done work at 11pm, so every second spent fiddling with my phone before bed is time I could’ve spent unwinding with Hannah. [Read more…] about Android Spotlight: Agent
Tis the Season – Advent
November was my church’s 1st birthday. We’ve done a lot right in the past year, but there are definitely some areas that we’ve admitted need improving. One of those areas was recognizing the season of Advent. Last year, we were brand new and still trying to hammer down our doctrine and mission, so Advent took a backseat to those “primary” teachings. As we’ve grown in the past year, this Advent season, we’re going all out. I recommend you do the same. [Read more…] about Tis the Season – Advent
Android Spotlight: Lockscreen Replacements
If you haven’t figured it out by now, Android is my mobile OS of choice. It’s flexibility, openness, and customizability have me invested deeply into Android’s ecosystem. I customize my homescreen almost every day, download (and delete) scores of apps in a week, and chat with tons of Android designers on Google Plus. I’ve got my ear to the ground when it comes to new and up-and-coming Android features and trends. One trend I’m seeing more and more is customizable lockscreen replacements. Hit that continue reading button to learn what they are, what they mean for your ministry, and my very own recommendation. [Read more…] about Android Spotlight: Lockscreen Replacements
