To setup a blogging strategy at the beginning of the year can be a good thing. To review it every month to measure if we are on track for success is capitalizing on an established vision for the blog. But to go from good to great with a strategy and achieve something that will not only be empowering, but formative in the long term is to reevaluate and rework the strategy every three to six months. The purpose behind this is to revitalize the goals you established, refocus the numbers after unforeseen barriers or underestimated target goals, and continuously challenge yourself to achieve a better product or service.
I push constantly for people to use images with whatever they do, whether it is to match a great blog, improve a good presentation, or make a tweet or Google+ status update pop. Yet, if I preach to use good photo habits, I should help you find them. We already did giveaway three free photos from Lightstock.com. But we want to do a monthly set of free stock photos for you to use however you want.
If you do use these, please cite back to this post that you found them here so others can find them too. I recommend the following citation: [HT Image via 78p.tv]
Sometimes celebrities seem detached with “the normal people’s” world with the tabloids, arrests, and drama that they have. Yet, the world seems like a small place and the Internet helps make amazing things happening. One beautiful “little thing” happened to Zach Sobiech from a long list of celebrities and friends. Here is the description from the YouTube video.
Zach Sobiech is 17 years old and diagnosed with osteosarcoma, a rare form of bone cancer that takes the lives of a large percent of its childhood victims. Given only months to live, Zach turned to music to say goodbye. His song “Clouds” spread, and soon, Zach’s message was heard across the country. We wanted to help Zach spread his message, and bring awareness to increase support for finding a cure. So, we asked our friends to help out…they did.
SEO stands for Search Engine Optimization which is the idea that we are making it easy for sites like Bing and Google to come and find our blogs. The impact of SEO done well or ignored for a blog or website can actually mean a different of thousands of viewers. While many bloggers out there might focus on trying to get their article to be great for the short term SEO (especially if they are writing every day like we do), there is something to say for looking at the long term which has been coined as “long tail SEO.”
If you have not yet seen this video of a grandmother playing on an Oculus Rift, it is something any tech enthusiast will enjoy. For those that do not know what the Oculus Rift is, it is a virtual reality headset for 3D gameplay and the grandmother seems to love it.
What I take out of this for a spiritual direction is this idea of a whole world within the Christian life that is to be experienced. As Christian tech workers, we have the opportunity to invite a whole host of people within a church building as well as out in the community to experience Christ in a unique way, with technology. My hope is that you try to achieve something that will make people react thee way that this grandmother does, but to the Gospel.
I have shared with you guys about how I have failed to backup my hard drive and in a recent crash, lost about a month’s worth of work. Apparently I am part of a majority of people and to be responsible is the rare exception. Please here me when I say that you need to do as I say and NOT as I have done in the past! Data backup is a very important thing and should not be considered when it is too late.
