I have been thinking a lot about collaboration lately. As I was browsing the web, I came across this list of myths about collaboration.
The five myths are:
It’s the time of year when Pumpkin Spice Lattes are making huge sales at Starbucks, scarecrows are starting to return to their rightful places (the closet), and churches are putting on fall festivals all around the nation.
The following one really caught my attention though, something that hasn’t ever been done before, to my knowledge. Elevation Church in Charlotte, NC recently held a “Flash Fall Festival” and here is what went down:
We decided to take the fall festival/carnival to the people, instead of having them come to us. Here’s the kicker – we did it all in 1 hour. So, we set up a stage, had fire-breathers, jugglers, women on stilts, and most importantly, sought to share the love of Christ with a lower-income area of Charlotte.
We gave away lots of food, shared conversation over hotdogs and cotton candy, and sent people home with groceries in hand. The band even played 1 song. Then we were gone, packed and completely cleaned up….in an hour. Good times.
If you would like to see what went down check out this video:

I was browsing flickr and came across an interesting caption.
The caption said:
This is Elevation Church in North Carolina, the second fastest growing church in the US. I was there for Grand Opening shooting photos for my brother’s company Visioneering Studios, who did the architecture.
This was in a strip mall (I belive an old K-mart). The idea is that the church should be more approachable and accessible in the community.
It got me thinking and questioning. What makes a church approachable? and what does that even mean?
