It’s been far too long since I’ve written anything on great Android apps! Have you noticed? Well, that ends today. If you missed the New Year’s kickoff post of my favorite Android apps, you can link back to that here. This week’s spotlight is on one of my all time favorite apps, Amber.
Porn: It's Not the Tech's Fault!
This is the fifth article in the series The Fight Against Porn series.
In my last post on porn, I mentioned a few different reasons why I felt porn is such a huge problem in modern culture. Part of the problem is the availability of it that comes by way of the technology we possess in our homes and in our pockets. This post is a clarification on that point by communicating that it’s not technologies “fault” that we’re so struck down by pornography. Tech is simply a tool that we use that can either bring glory to God or to our selfish desires. Let me explain.
Words Matter
This past week, my church family at Missio Dei has been engaging in great discussions on church membership and church leadership. As a member of our leadership team, I’m glad we’re small enough to engage with everyone on these important church functions, but boy does it take a lot out of you! There have been tons of searching Scriptures as well as our own hearts concerning these topics.
How does this relate to church technology? Because the majority of these conversations have been taking place online or via private messages. If you’ve done any communicating through technology, you know it can get really messy, really fast. All it takes is one person trying to use sarcasm for the conversation to blow up and become unproductive. Sorry, this article isn’t about how to control people and stop them from saying stupid things on the interwebs, but hopefully you will be able to walk away with some good tips regarding online communication.
Upgrade Your Church to Google
At 78p.tv, we all have a huge passion for seeing the church embrace technology in creative ways. At my church plant, we have no choice but to do just that because of the minimized financial cost and its completely integrated web applications! It’s been about a year and a half since we planted Missio Dei, and since day one we were heavily invested in Google’s ecosystem. Google+, Google Drive, and Google Hangouts have been invaluable tools in our arsenal. If you’re a mega church or a plant like ours, I think you can easily integrate these Google services into your leadership team.
Modern Porn
This is the fourth article in the series The Fight Against Porn series.
Pornography is a HUGE industry in modern America. Even though revenues are down for the pornography business, people are consuming more and more free porn. This is not encouraging.
If you’ve ever tried to combat pornography in the past, you’ve more than likely found it incredibly difficult. Why is that? There are tons of factors that play into this, but in this article I’ll go over two reasons why “quitting” pornography use is so difficult for us modern techies. [Read more…] about Modern Porn
Calling All Church Bloggers!
Starting Something New
Welcome! Why am I welcoming you you ask? Because, this is the intro to a brand new series I’ll be writing on different blogging tools and services! Now that I’ve been writing for 78P for almost 6 months, I see the importance in communicating clearly and effectively online. I’ve always seen having an online presence as a necessity for churches and ministries, but now I have an even deeper appreciation for a well curated blog or article.
