Some may laugh at this comicbut some may think it’s a little sad too.
It’s great to be connected on social media platforms such as Twitter, but is it worth it to actually sacrifice living in the moment or relishing the moment, in order to tweet about the moment?
Made me think.
[Editor: Sad, I had this happen and @Dewde snapped a shot of it recently…]

It isn’t just social media that can disengage us. I find digital photography can do it too. Now that we have the ability to take so many pictures it is easy to spend too much effort capturing the moment but not really enjoying the moment
Ileana Ortiz says
Absolutely. As a photographer myself, it’s something I struggle with all the time. I think it’s all about balance.
Phillip Gibb says
ha ha ha,
one of the reasons why I don’t twee too much over the weekends.
Dewaine Cooper says
My wife called me on this about a month ago during a youth ministry fundraiser. From that point on I’ve kept an eye out on the appropriate times to be social online while being social physically.
Matthew Snider says
I actually wrote about this yesterday and how the wife and I are taking a stand against it. We turned off text messaging and deleted our facebook accounts. The whole Social Media arena was making us pay too much attention to who went where and who is the mayor of what new taco shop.
Ileana Ortiz says
Is this a permanent thing your wife and yourself are planning on doing, or is it temporary until you figure out how to balance everything?
Chris Hill says
At first glance, those rock band drums looked like you were wearing butterfly wings. LOL!!!
Ileana Ortiz says
LOL. It so does!
Graham Brenna says
Am I feeling engaged… or am I tweeting my life?
Yes.
Actually had a great discussion on this topic with a small group earlier this week! We intentionally didn’t really come to any conclusions… but we did agree that it’s really a generational thing.
(I know this isn’t the first time we’ve discussed this here at CC)
Chuck Warnock says
This is exactly why I cancelled my Twitter account this week, closed down two blogs, and will close down another site when the domain expires. Real life is far more interesting, engaging, and….real…than my online life, which is in itself a contradiction in terms. So, now I’m down to one active blog, and one Facebook account. Life is good!
Matthew (distort.it) says
It’s funny Chuck, I did the same thing with Twitter and Facebook. I utilize twitter for my work only now and it’s off hours for the most part.
Check out my latest post. Have had some great feedback on it.

Interesting. I just deleted my Twitter account lol
I left Facebook about a year ago. I realized that it was depressing me. Its a long story…and I’m not going there lol.
I have nothing against Twitter, Facebook, or whatever else is out there (they are very useful tools for connecting to others).
I agree that balance is key.
