This is the eighteenth article in the series App of the Week series.
For Christians, the art of memorizing Scripture has become a bit of a lost art. Even worse, many Christians simply do not know all of the books of the Bible. Some would blame this on laziness, others on technology.
The Scripture Memorizer app for the App Store specifically targets this one key skill to help Christians memorize Scripture better. This post is our analysis of the app and our likes and dislikes. It should be noted that we did receive a free copy of this app, but hopefully we still give a fair and unbiased review.
The Good
It is great that someone is taking this idea seriously and actually does the job well.
- No Distractions An app like this simply cannot have ten different functions, such as the wonderful YouVersion Bible app, because you need to concentrate and work on the short- and long-term memory for verses. Distractions would take away from the success of the experience.
- Easily Set Up Instead of having to go through point after point of registering for this app, you immediately jump into setting up your memorization verses and begin.
- Long or Short Term Plans Whether you are a teenager wanting to just memorize 10 verses for youth group or a grad Bible student needing to memorize full passages for soul care and school, you can do both in just a couple of clicks
The Bad
As wonderful of an app as this is, there are definitely some pieces that need to be improved.
- Limited Scripture I get that licenses are expensive and so TNIV may not be first on their list, but only KJV and NAS are too limited and more effort should be in getting a more diverse selection of translations.
- Design Improvements I think that they play to the strength of making a functional app which has hindered the design, but if you have to pay $1.99 for the app, a better visually appealing design needs to be implemented.
- Crashing In several different incidences, my app would crash as I tried to navigate through the app and those bugs need to be worked out to be a successful app.
