This is the twenty-fifth article in the series App of the Week series.
LinkedIn is one of the best social networks for finding great networks, engage with professionals, find new recruits for your organization, and if need be, find you a job. To make this engagement better, I have taken to the iOS mobile device. For those that are die-hard LinkedIn users, you need this app. For those that are hardcore users for a short-period of time, you be the judge.
The Good
The LinkedIn network is all about engaging and so a mobile app is perfect for engaging with others. Here is what we love.
- Endorsing Mania My favorite thing to do on the LinkedIn app is to endorse people when I have a few extra minutes. The idea is endorsing others will hopefully give them incentives to endorse you back. Always on you means better engagement.
- Preview The Company LinkedIn is great for potential employees to research the companies and vice versa. A couple minutes before the interview starts, take that time to memorize stuff about your company or interviewee.
- Notifications, Notifications I never check notifications on the desktop. When I see that notification number come up, I make a point of checking it. Perfect for being engaged.
The Bad
While the engagement level of the iOS app is perfect, there are several things that need updating.
- No Email Integration If you get a link on your email to a LinkedIn notification and click it, it opens the app. Why not integrate the app with the emails too?
- Update Only On Desktop Because of the professional nature of this network, I do not want to screw up my profile because of clumsy thumbs. Thus, I will only update paragraphs on the desktop.
- Requesting Recommendations? The requesting recommendations is great! … but it is only available on the desktop. Yet, the only time I think about requesting something is when I am standing in front of the person. Putting this feature on the mobile app may dramatically increase this use.
