Looking to add some security to your WiFi signal?
Researchers at the University of Tokyo in Japan have designed a new paint that can absorb frequencies as high as 100GHz.
By adding aluminium-iron oxide, it resonates at the same frequency used by WiFi signals, thus absorbing and blocking the signal.
I can see a lot of applications for this. Not only can you keep wireless networks secure, but movie theaters could block cell phone calls, hospital rooms would be shielded from unwanted electromagnetic radiation, as well as make protective clothing that shields electromagnetic waves.
I’m not sure this will be a popular product in the general market, however, if it can block cell phone reception, wouldn’t you mess up your own phone signal while blocking your WiFi from your neighbor?

Correct me if I am wrong, but isn’t there a law against civilians jamming cell phones, be it active or passive.
Cool tech however. Lots less expensive than a Faraday cage for your building. 🙂

You may be right, Will.
This was reported via the BBC and discovered by researchers in Japan.
