I find the sport of surfing fascinating. I’ve never done it myself but still enjoy watching it. It is one of the few sports where you directly interact with the natural world God created. As someone who lives on the East coast, the largest waves I’ve seen people surf are 3-4 feet at their highest (unless there is a hurricane or tropical storm a few hundred miles away).
Teahupo’o (pronounced cho-po) is a village on the southwest coat of Tahiti. It is also home to some of best surfing in the world and some of the biggest waves. The annual Billabong Pro Tahiti surf competition is held there every year and in 2011, the waves were so big and so dangerous that anybody not part of the competition are to be arrested for even entering the water.
Videographer Chris Bryan captured some of that day’s surfing with a Phanton HD Gold Camera.
This is a camera capable of shooting at 1000fps which allows for eye popping slow motion video.
