The Brilliance is one of the bands that I’d always heard good things about but had never taken the time to get into. I’m regretting that now because their new album All Is Not Lost is fantastic!
I honestly don’t know what to say because it’s just that good. For the past few weeks, this has been my “morning music” while I get ready for school. It’s far more relaxing and uplifting than the politics podcasts I’d been consuming for the past few months, and if you don’t think that’s high praise, let me finish. This album has been working to draw the poison out of my system. The themes of hope and love have served as a stark contrast to the flood hate and cynicism that I’ve been drowning. The album title–All Is Not Lost–says it all.
But if you’d like me to say more, how about this cute little anecdote: this morning, my wife and I were babysitting our eight-month old niece. She arrived at our house at 6:45am and was crying non-stop until 8am. And what put her to sleep was a gentle bit of rocking for me and the relaxing atmosphere created by The Brilliance. Now, don’t misunderstand. This album won’t put you to sleep, but what it will do is serve as a balm for your soul, providing you forty minutes of peace in a world awash with chaos.
Favorite Tracks
“Gravity of Love”
“Night Has Passed/Morning Has Broken”
“See the Love”
“Turning the Tables”
“Lift Your Voice”
Those five songs represent what I think is the best of the best. It was legitimately hard to narrow it down.
I’ll put it like this: are you looking for a new, unique sounding bit of music that is equally entertaining and uplifting? Stop. I’ve found it, and this is it. This isn’t a worship album, but I could play some of the tracks for altar time at my church. It’s not a “cruising the strip” album, but I could blast some of tracks on my way home from work. This album has it all, and trust me, you’ll want to have this album.
