I have discovered, at times, a love-hate relationship with blogging.
There are times when I really love it and there are times where I feel like that was my last post that I’ll ever do.
But what I’ve discovered is that blogging is affected by pretty much everything else in my life and when I’m most stressed I’m most negative about things that I really enjoy (like blogging). When things are in more of a state of “balance” blogging energizes me instead of drains.
Have you experienced a love-hate relationship with blogging? What have you discovered?

My love-hate relationship with blogging centers around my own insecurities that what I write about isn't interesting enough to actually publish on a blog. I journal every night…I do mean EVERY night…before I go to bed. I do it to process my day. I feel like blogging is a way to share the ah-ha moments of life. Apparently I haven't had many of those lately. I love reading other people's blogs about their ah-ha's in life, I hate that I don't feel adequate enough the share mine.

that's kinda cool though. i used to journal much more than i do now… hmmmm…

I don't necessarily have a comment regarding the content of this post…I just wanted to say that that is one of the creepiest pictures you have ever used, John.

Does anyone even know the reference? (Movie, 1955, The Night of the Hunter, very strange movie http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0048424/)
human3rror says
huh…

The Love Hate tattoo is originally from a 1955 movie. It has its own cultural life now, but the movie was very weird. Worth seeing if you are into older movies.
In the movie the character with the love hate tattoo is pretending to be a traveling preacher (actually a thief). He marries the widow of a man that that was hung for his part of a robbery. The money was not recovered but the "traveling preacher" thinks the kids know where the money is. The tattoo is explained as a gospel lesson. It is his way of remembering that we all have the ability for good and evil within us.
Sorry, I know that there are other cultural references to it as well, but as far as I know the movie was the origin of it.
human3rror says
thanks for that. i had no idea actually. wow.

Oh yeah, all the time. I'm always afraid I'll run out of ideas next week. Sometimes, I hope I run out of ideas. But it always pulls me back in, and I can't let it go. It really does affect the rest of your life. Everything filters through a blog lens – where you look at something and think 'would that make a good blog post?'

Yeah, I think my love-hate relationship starts with loving to share my thoughts with people and hear their responses and ends with hating that I often have nothing to write about, so I don't. (At least I think I have nothing to write about). You can see the gaping holes on my blog calendar where I have written nothing. Some of that is probably because writing is not where I want it to be on my priority list.

I guess i do have a love-hate relationship with blogging. The worst is slaving over a post you expect to be a hit…and watching tumbleweed roll across your screen. Nobody tweets it, nobody says anything about, its like it never existed. But then the love part comes you go on and write a post that everyone's telling their friends about, people are commenting on , and talking to each other about. I love that! That is is a great feeling.

feels so yum yum.

I"m kind of the same way – when life is stressful then I don't tend to do so much of the "extras" in my life (like blogging, reading, writing, coding) and they are usually the first to wither. Actually, when I think about it – its the stuff that requires creativity that tends to be the first to go in stressful situations. On the other hand, it's others creativity that will sometimes lift me out of the doldrums brought on by stress and inspire me to pick up those extras again.

I stopped blogging for a good chunk of the summer and wa snot sure I would come back, but I did. However, I do not feel tied to the pressure of a schedule anymore. I blog when i feel moved to, not when I feel I have to. That might violate some cardinal rule of consistency is what your readers expect and deserve but so be it. The cardinals will just have to deal with that.
But I enjoy it more now as a result.

i had to schedule time just to keep blogging…but i'm using some lists of topics to inspire (like brogan's)

I'm in a weird place of both love and hate at the moment. One of my blogs i've got bad writers block, the other is going great and i have more ideas than i have time to write about.
human3rror says
you have two? awesome!
joannamuses says
There is only 2 that require much writing, but i have 3 in total. A travel blog (the one that's going really well), a blog dedicated to silly christian videos (going pretty well) and a general ramblings one (not going so well).
human3rror says
haha! which one is the traveling?

The trick is to not let your blog rule you. At times, I post every day. Other times I don't post for weeks. At the end of the day, who cares how many followers your have or links to your sight etc. A blog is a weblog. I only engage into into it when my brain desires to do so. Other times, it can wait.
human3rror says
dude. best attitude ever.
