A little more than three months ago, I had had several conversations with new bloggers as well as those that have been at it at awhile not seem much interaction. This spurred me to write A Call To Action where I challenged people who want to have comments on their site to go comment on others too. For those reading this that want to join on too, go visit that page, read the details, and sign up!
For those that are in the Commenting Army, how are you doing with commenting?
Now that we are three months in, the passion for me to encourage other bloggers is still there. That being said, things get busy and sometimes we lose sight of these goals that we intended to fully do. Other times, life just hits us hard and so many barriers prevent us from tackling our intentions. The past is the past, regardless if we succeeded or not, and we need to keep at it. So I have some tips for you to keep commenting on.
Are You Prompting Them To Engage?
It would seem silly that we need to ask for someone to leave a comment, but different surveys have found that through A/B testing, readers who are asked a question at the end of an article have found more responses. You have a lot to offer in your post, but if you want it to be a dialogue, be intentional within your article to instigate something.
Be Clear Where You Stand On Something
Some of the worst blog articles to comment on are the ones that you are not clearly sure what the writer is trying to say or which side they are taking. Other times, you write a post that insinuates all other thoughts are wrong or you pick the only “logical” choice. If you write like that, do not assume that people will want to write on your blog.
Have You Built Your Tribe?
Dustin Stout preaches this idea of building a tribe, a community of people that have come around a cause or initiative. This whole Commenting Army concept is about making a better community of bloggers that engage with each other’s work. If we want to have commenters, we should be commenting on others’ too.
What do you want to see happen next with your blog?
