This isn’t a hymnal in 8-bit (I’m not sure how you would do that, anyway), but actual 8-bit video game style music set to your favorite hymns.
Tyler Larson has put together 15 different hymns that are currently available to download—for free—from Noisetrade.
Here’s a list of the songs as well as the motivation behind this 8-bit project:
The 8-Bit Hymnal
Just look at that cover art! 😀
Tyler explains the motivation behind this impressive undertaking:
“My hope is that “The 8-Bit Hymnal” can be some kind of bridge or conversation-starter to get older Christians and younger Christians interacting with each other. I’ve combined some of my favorite hymns from way back when with the great retro-sound of 8-Bit music.”
Here are the song’s covered in The 8-Bit Hymnal:
- A Mighty Fortress Is Our God
- All Hail the Power of Jesus’ Name
- Amazing Grace
- Be Thou My Vision
- Blessed Assurance
- Christ The Lord Has Risen Today
- Come Thou Fount
- Crown Him With Many Crowns
- Holy Holy Holy
- It Is Well With My Soul
- Jesus Loves Me
- Joyful Joyful We Adore Thee
- Nearer My God to Thee
- Rock of Ages
- The Old Rugged Cross
Is it good?
That’s for you to decide.
My son saw the cover art and heard the songs playing while I wrote this and said, “That’s fun!”
