Are you really creative or do you just think you are?
Here are five traits of creative people:
- They are curious.
Questions, questions, questions … Since kids are naturally creative, I wonder what happens to those whose creativity is curbed as an adult? - They like challenges.
Creatives are natural problem solvers who never retreat from difficult things. - They are not afraid to experiment.
Testing, testing, testing … What some call failure, they call experimenting. - They have high standards.
Creatives are never satisfied or finished with a project. It always looks undone. - They know how to accept and give constructive criticism.
It’s all about loving to create, not loving the created.
What would you add to this list?

I want solutions to those problems. By that I mean, each one of those character trots of creatives has a dark side to them. For instance: never considering project completed causes us to continue obsessing about small details without seeing the bigpicture and possibly missing the real reason for the project.
Does that make sense? Good list by the way.

I know exactly what you’re talking about!
My wife has said a million times: “Eric, I think you’re obsessing.”
True story.
I think the answer to your question might be this: “Be mindful.”
Knowing these are the traits, you can set boundaries and deadlines to insure you stay away from these pitfalls.
I’ve caught myself a number times falling into these pitfalls. The more I catch myself, the better I get at it. Bridling your creative strengths is difficult, but it is rich with rewards!

Interesting.
I consider myself lacking in the creative department but I rate 5 out of 5 on your list.
I can execute ideas well but I struggle with a blank slate.

I’m with you about the blank slate. I think a big part of being creative is learning your weaknesses.
Eric Dye says
I believe that’s a natural evolution of a designer.
I think if you can create good stuff from a blank slate … you’ve arrived.
