Here are the five trends that Will identifies in his video.
Creative Typography
By this, Will means more than just hand lettering and calligraphy which have been recent trends. Instead, he lists dripping text and text which have elements removed from them for dramatic effect.
Double Exposure
Double exposure is when a camera takes two images and merges them together. There can be some very creative uses of this such as the shape of a head with the image of what the person is thinking taking up their whole head. Will believes that we will see more double exposures in 2018 and some sub-genres within this genre.
More 3D
This isn’t about 3D fonts on a screen with gradients and shadows or anything but is about actual 3D. With more VR and AR technology spreading thanks to smartphone advances and dropping prices of gear, this will encourage more use of design in these areas.
More Vivid Colours
Instagram, YouTube, and Spotify have all made their logos more vibrant in the last year and moved away from the popular pastel colors of the past. Will believes this will continue to spread and will also be present in gradients too.
Geometric Shapes and Patterns
Geometric shapes are commonly used at the moment but will believe these will also adopt more 3d aspects in their use and design.
