With Christmas comes the “holiday sales” with apple and other companies. I often look for a bargain or two of apps that I’ve wanted and … with that in mind, when I saw that Mini Metro was on sale, I lept at the chance to buy it and give it a play.
What is Mini Metro?
Mini Metro is a mobile game where you build metro (or underground) lines between dots on a map. Passangers wait at the stops and need trains to take them between the points. Some of them want to go to certain shapes. If too many passengers are waiting at a station, the station is overcrowded and you lose.
The Good
This is a great example of a mobile game, in the classic form of fruit ninja, flappy bird and others. You have a very simple control interface with pulling lines between objects. It’s also really addictive where you get engrossed in seeing these little rectangles moving up and down the train lines.
The payment model is also great, no In app purchases, just a single up front cost. That probably means someone will/has made a cheap nock off with cost but adverts (because apparently $0.99 is too much for a game).
The sounds and colours also work really well and make for a very relaxing environment.
The Bad
If you really hate paying people for stuff you enjoy, then I guess you’d hate this. On a more serious problem, sometimes the controls can get a little confusing. For example, at the start I accidentally made new lines on a couple of occasions when I didn’t want to. Then there is the ability to remove a line from a station (pro tip, hold the line before the station, then move your finger to the station and it will glow. Then the line should be free of the station. Don’t touch the station again or it will reattach. Yes, I’ve done that). So it can be a little Finiky.
I wonder how long the enjoyability of this game will last. It’s one of those games with no end point so I could keep playing it again and again but maybe I’ll just stop enjoying it at some point.
