I was at a teaching conference this weekend and during one of the talks, a presenter made reference to an idea that I had never heard of before: “Digital residents and digital visitors.” He explained that this was the new terms that people were using instead of digital natives (which has had a fair amount of criticism thrown at it recently). Intrigued, I decided to do a bit of research into what the term meant and what relevance it might have for us in Church tech.

I love the Church. I know and believe the local church is God’s plan. One of the analogies used to describe the church is household. A family is also another appropriate way to describe the church. And, as with any family, you (should) love your family even with its dose of crazy. Every family has its weird aunt, uncle, sibling, and share of its dad jokes. Growing up in the church might have also allowed me to have a weird unique perspective on stuff.
Every now and then, like we all do, we invite a friend home. And, we all know how invitations can come with anxiety. You know how you hope dad doesn’t try to act cool for your friends. Hopefully, your sibling doesn’t do something to embarrass you. You don’t want your cousin making your guests feel awkward. There are a few things I wish church people would stop doing.
If you have not heard of Extra Life, I have something amazing to share with you. There is an organization designed to empower people who love to play video games to play and raise money to help benefit the Children’s Miracle Hospital network.
This week we talk about Extra Life!
What’s Extra Life?
From the Extra Life website:
“Extra Life unites thousands of gamers around the world to play games in support of their local Children’s Miracle Network Hospital. Since its inception in 2008, Extra Life has raised more than $30 million for sick and injured kids. Sign up today and dedicate a day of play for kids in your community!”
A cool fundraiser to help kids. Do it for the kids and help Jeremy raise some donations!
Breakfast Serial is a serialized collection of short stories. We will post an episodic entry each week.
“You do, don’t you? She died, and you don’t want to live without her!” The first officer looked at the captain, face buried in his hands. Turning to the command screen, the young officer knew she had to move quickly if there were to be any hope saving herself and the untold millions who would die in the the ensuing war.
“Computer, the captain has been deemed unworthy to command. Under section 8, subsection 2 of the FCP, I am taking command of this ship.”
YouTube TV is supposed to be the cable killer and as someone that has dove all the way in, I love it. At $35/month with all of the regular channels, including ESPN, children’s channels, and able use multiple user accounts all while not having any commercials, this is absolutely a deal.
